About
Welcome to The Luna Cottages! The restoration of this home has been a passion project for our family. Our goal is to offer the best combination of beauty and ease in the heart of Union Pier, Michigan.
Beach Access
The Luna Cottages are part of the Luna Gowdy Street Beach Association with three separate beach access points. The closest one is directly across the street from the property. There is a small chain-link gate with a marked sign that leads to the lake.
The beach access for the property begins at the bottom of the stairs and goes 1000 feet to the right.
Meet Your Hosts
Peter & Kate Rienks
Kip & Kathy Wellin
Kip and Kathy Wellin grew up in the greater Michiana area. They began dating their sophomore year of high school. After attending college at the University of Miami, Ohio, they decided that South Bend was where they would settle to eventually raise their family of six. Their second daughter, Kate, was born in South Bend, and only briefly left the area to pursue her degree in interior design. During college, she met Peter Rienks, who had grown up in the Michiana area as well.
Peter gained his architectural degree, and upon completing college, they married and returned to the area to place their roots into the community. Peter deepened his love for the area by obtaining an Executive Masters degree from the University of Notre Dame.
In 2017, Peter and Kate founded The Rienks Group with a mission to change the culture of commercial real estate. After finding success with commercial properties,, they desired to expand their mission to include residential real estate. Within this transition, they partnered with Kip and Kathy, to form TRG Hospitality. Kate and Peter have put their expertise into design and construction of the cottages, while Kip and Kathy have contributed their attention to detail and passion for cultivating beauty within the landscape.
Both families love lake culture, with Kip and Kathy owning their own home on Lake Michigan, and Kate, Peter, along with their four boys, spending their off hours at the lake. Most weekends you can find them strolling the beach, hunting for sea glass, and enjoying the breath taking sunsets. Given this love, it seemed natural for them to bring their hospitality to the lake.
